While Team McCain desperately tries to link Barack Obama to people he’s known or met any time in his life, turns out John McCain carefully chose William Timmons, a long-time Washington lobbyist, to head his presidential transition team.
What’s the deal with Timmons? Not much. Just that he worked to help none other than Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein when he was seeking to ease international sanctions against his regime. Oh…and surprise…he also worked on a deal to purchase and resell oil.
Let’s see…a few years back Barack Obama worked with a member of his community, Bill Ayers, to help improve education for kids and address other poverty issues. Team McCain is pushing THAT connection with all its might. Yet now John McCain selects lobbyist Timmons with ties to the former Iraqi dictator’s regime to head his entire transition. Did he perhaps use the same scrutiny he used to select Sarah Palin? No doubt.
Well…the good news is Team McCain is finally starting to put together a transition team – something Barack Obama has already been planning for months since he understands it takes ample strategic planning to do things seamlessly. But McCain didn’t need no stinkin’ advance planning. Mavericks can do stuff like this overnight, even amid continuing economic crisis. And anyway…who better than his good buddy Timmons, a seasoned lobbyist, to get that “new only on the outside” McBush agenda going.
You have to wonder what McCain is thinking. Or even whether he’s thinking.
